The Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, designed and built in 24 months, is one of the keystones of the development of the new health district in Rabat. This complex, which meets international standards, will accommodate 280,000 patients with its 550 beds and 20 operating rooms for the hospital, while the university will welcome 5,000 students.

Methodology

To ensure the design-build of such a complex in 24 months, the work organization between architects, general contractor, and design offices was redesigned so that everyone could design and build in parallel. To meet these requirements, the acoustic firm Tisseyre+Partners relied on its tools and joint working methods with the general contractor. Whether for the acoustic performance of materials or for environmental acoustics, we developed our own tools for modeling acoustic phenomena. As we master the assumptions of our models, our acoustic solution prescriptions are highly precise, optimized, and integrated into the architecture. These models allowed us to define construction solutions and produce lot-by-lot identification plans with BYMARO. During the construction site, Tisseyre+Partners implemented an acoustic quality assurance plan (QAP), an essential methodology for managing all architectural lots during a fast-track construction site.

Tasks

Validation and optimization of construction solutions with the general contractor

Throughout the project, using our virtual acoustic laboratory, we model the acoustic performance of all products and materials purchased by the company. We consolidate and validate construction solutions across all architectural packages.

Environmental acoustic mission

For the envelope, we relied on BIMAE®. By modeling the sound evolution over the course of a day of transport, technical equipment and human activities, our tool checks the acoustic balance between these different sound sources in order to avoid nuisances. We can then anticipate, integrate and optimize the acoustic solutions necessary for the coherence of soundscapes. We were able to model the soundscape of the entire district and particularly the noise pollution interactions between the nearby IBN Sina hospital and this university hospital complex. Based on this, we defined the acoustic arrangements on the facade and technical equipment.
