The Docks du Havre were created to revitalize this district. The Docks now include: a 2,000-seat performance hall, the Carré des Docks, a cinema, a shopping area and an exhibition centre.

Methodology

Tisseyre + Associés has 40 years of experience in the acoustics of performance halls, its core business originally. 30 years ago, anticipating the shift to digital and 3D visualization, we developed 3D modeling tools and methods for performance halls: Hall Acoustics®, and 4D for the environment: BIMAE®. Instead of using the sound ray shooting technique which does not take into account the architectural details, nor the urban acoustic porosity, we use the finite element mesh technique. This technique makes it possible to study the acoustic phenomena in the soundscape in the future state of completion on true 3D (rather than extended 2D) from the design phase. Thus, we can produce work supports for the contracting authority and the architects so that the sound coherence is an integral part of the project.

Tasks

Acoustic AMO of the performance hall

With 40 years of experience in acoustic project management and acoustic AMO, we have drawn up specifications for the acoustic performance of performance halls. For this multipurpose room we focused on:

  • The acoustic insulation of the room vis-à-vis the rest of the complex;
  • The acoustic performance of the room;
  • Set acoustic requirements with regard to noise from technical equipment and ventilation.

Thanks to our 3D modeling tool, Hall Acoustics®, we were able to check the room's acoustic performance before the construction phase and then modify the acoustician's initial design, in particular by making volume modifications to the side walls of the room.

Environmental Acoustic AMO

Thanks to BIMAE®, we model the soundscapes in the future state of completion by taking into account the noise of transport and that of human activities hour by hour, in order to achieve a balance and obtain coherent acoustic spaces. As part of neighborhood noise legislation, BIMAE®, in particular established the criteria for maximum permissible sound levels during the day and at night. The definition of sound level criteria is not based simply on intrinsically variable acoustic measurements, but on a statistical database and approach (UNM®) with which we model landscapes. Thus, we ensure the acoustic comfort of the neighborhood and protect the operator.
