The Palace cinema in Brussels was rehabilitated in 2018 to accommodate 4 screens, a Horeca space, a café, a cultural store and offices. This partially listed building has been restored so that it corresponds to developments in the district and its needs.

Methodology

Tisseyre + Associés has 40 years of experience in room acoustics. 30 years ago, anticipating the shift to digital and 3D visualization, we developed tools and methods to optimize room acoustic solutions. Based on the observation that the acoustics of a cinema hall are structuring for its architecture, we have developed a joint working methodology with the architect so that the acoustic solutions are integrated. Our global acoustic approach taking into account the acoustic performance of the room, its insulation vis-à-vis the outside as well as its sound system from the design phase makes it possible to meet the need for sound immersion of users.

Tasks

Acoustic performance of the room

Thanks to our 3D model tool, Hall Acoustics®, we can model with finesse the architectural choices of the volume, shapes, materials and moldings of cinema halls so that they fully participate in their acoustic performance. For the sound and visual images to overlap perfectly, we check:

  • The sound homogeneity of the room: we create rooms that are bright enough to guarantee good sound coverage (difference of 3 to 4dB between the front row and the back of the room).
  • The sharpness of the sound image by integrating the sound system from the design of the room.

Insulation between rooms

Our PIAA softwareYOUR makes it possible to predict the acoustic performance of the walls according to their compositions. Thus, we can free ourselves from the test reports of the structures while obtaining the performance of the minimum sound reduction index targeted.

PA system

Thanks to our Hall Electroacoustic software®, we can integrate the sound system into the architecture of the project and optimize its direction to ensure the auditory immersion of the viewer. Coupled with the natural acoustics of the room, the Bass trap system eliminates the back feedback of low frequencies and obtains a clear and crisp sound image.
